How can I tell if Chippendale is real?

You can tell if a Chippendale is real by looking for flaws and tool marks in the construction. Chippendale was all handmade, which led to small imperfections in the joints, hand sawing marks and other small flaws. In addition, aging of the wood, some warping and shrinking was expected and provided for. You should not see Chippendale wood tightening and cracking like other furniture.
