1 Answer
What does the Lion of Lucerne represent?
The Lion of Lucerne symbolizes bravery and strength. It also represents that a soldier is willing to die rather than surrender. Also called the Dying Lion, the sculpture created by Bertal Thorvaldsen in 1818 and 1819 is a monument that honors the sacrifice of the Swiss Guards who died protecting King Louis XVI during the French Revolution in 1792.
