About the Item

Costume di Sinagreci is a lovely watercolour on ivory-colored paper stuck on cardboard, created by the artist Michela De Vito in 1820 ca. Hand-titled "Costume di Sinagreci", in black ink on the lower margin at the center. Hand-signed in black ink on the lower right. Very good conditions, including a passepartout. This original old master watercolor represents a standing woman wearing a typical costume of Sinagreci: a beautiful and lavish blue long dress with a white undergarment blouse and a gilded hat. The woman is also holding a walking wooden stick. Amazing artwork, beautifully drawn with soft outlines and a wide palette of vivid colors. Michela De Vito In the XIX century, Michela De Vito native of Abruzzi, worked in Naples and became a famous artist. She was maybe the daughter or sister of Camillo de Vito, a reknown painter of guaches above all of views and scenes of everyday life. Sometimes she is mistaken with Michele de Vito. “A refined painter, very skilled when it came to drawings, she had the characteristic to make her subject more gentle, compared to her male collegues"; this is how De Rosa and Trastulli describe her.
