About the Item

Head with Halo, Academic Study Inspired by Perugino, Tuscan School, 40 × 28 cm Mid-19th century Pencil on paper Academic drawing depicting a youthful head with a halo and upward gaze. The work is inspired by a model from Pietro Perugino or his circle, echoing the gentle features and serene expression characteristic of the Renaissance master. Executed with disciplined precision, the study reflects the 19th-century Tuscan academic tradition, attentive to light modeling and purity of line. The sheet comes from two large portfolios discovered in an old Tuscan property, containing a wide selection of drawings and copies made between the 18th century and the first quarter of the 20th century. The ensemble includes anatomical studies, life drawings, studies after plaster casts, and compositions of sacred or mythological subjects. Some sheets were likely executed by members of the same family, others gathered as reference material for artistic training and studio practice.
