About the Item

Bold landscape by American artist Joseph A. Atchison (1895-1967). Dark blue pine trees frame the scene on either side, with a lake in the center. Beyond the lake, a group of mountains rise from the horizon to mingle with the cloudy sky. Signed in the lower right corner. Joseph Anthony Atchison, F.R.S.A. (Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, London) Presented in a black and gold frame with non-glare glass. Paper size: 14"H x 16.75"W Joseph Anthony Atchison (American, 1895-1967) was known primarily for his bronze sculptures, but was also a masterful painter in oil and watercolor. Atchison designed the US official inaugural medal for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1937), as well as various monuments and sculptures in Washington DC. Several of his pieces are a part of the collections of The Smithsonian and The National Gallery of Art. Atchison studied with George Julian Zolnay, Richard Edwin Brooks, and P.W. Bartlett.
