Signature: Signed, titled lower center Condition: fair/good, see description Unframed This vibrant watercolor is by the noted California artist Judith Biehler (1940-). The watercolor depicts Fort Ross in Sonoma County, California. It is unframed. It measures 20 x 28" the sheet, 20 x 27" within the mat. The current mat is old and should be replaced. The painting is in fair to good condition. The colors are strong. There are no tears. There is a faint line in the watercolor, on the right of the sheet in the blue ocean. I have attached a photo of this blemish. There are also faint lines where the mat was next to the painting - these would not be visible with a new mat.

It is in good condition, the paper have 3 vertical soft creases that cross the image. About the artist: Born in Santa Rosa, California to a pioneering California family, Elizabeth Hoen was known for her watercolor paintings, many of them landscapes, in impressionist style. Her father, Berthold Hoen started a trading post in the Carillo adobe, the first building erected in the Sonoma Valley. He also helped survey and lay out the city of Santa Rosa. Elizabeth Hoen is not only the first painter to have their work cataloged into the Sonoma County Museum’s collection, but she was also a prolific artist in California in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and maintained a studio during a period when California art was largely dominated by men.
