This ink on paper work created in 1991 by Menachem Gueffen depicts a seated female figure, a subject that remained central to the artist’s practice throughout his career. Built with bold, energetic black brushstrokes, the composition combines gestural drawing with a vibrant sense of color. Dominant shades of fuchsia pink, magenta, coral and orange create a striking visual presence, while the expressive contours reduce the figure to an almost iconic form.
The work reflects Gueffen’s distinctive figurative expressionist approach, balancing spontaneity, emotional intensity and stylized representation. Influences of European modernism, post-cubism and figurative expressionism can be seen in the simplified volumes and confident linear construction.
Its vivid palette and strong graphic impact make this artwork particularly suitable for contemporary, modern, eclectic or minimalist interiors. At the same time, it offers collectors an authentic example of Gueffen’s enduring exploration of the female figure, one of the defining themes of his oeuvre.
