Description: An engaging original watercolour painting by the 20th-century French Impressionist artist, Maurice Mazeilie. This painting captures a serene seaside scene with several boats standing in the foreground, while another sails out to sea. The artist’s characteristic brushwork and vivid colour palette bring life and energy to the scene. Maurice Mazeilie (French, 1924 - 2021): Mazeilie lived and worked in Montmartre, where he had a studio on the famous Place du Tertre. Place du Tertre, located just a stone’s throw away from the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, is known for its vibrant community of artists and is considered one of the key locations in Montmartre's artistic history. Since the late 19th century, Montmartre has been a haven for artists, housing greats like Picasso and Modigliani, and providing inspiration with its scenic streets and bustling cafés. Place du Tertre and Montmartre Art Scene: Historical Significance: Place du Tertre became known as an artist's hub during the Belle Époque era, with painters such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, and Degas frequenting the area.
