Born in Bolivia, Mario Cespedes immigrated to Sao Paolo, Brazil at the age of 14. A self-taught artist, Cespedes acquired his early knowledge of art by visiting museums and learning from other artisans in the city’s public markets as a teenager. Much of his work was inspired by the Andes and Amazon River in South America and frequently comments on pollution and deforestation. Mario Cespedes is a member of the Paris International Association of Plastic Arts, partnered with UNESCO, and has exhibited widely and with success throughout South and North America including at the San Bernardino County Museum (1980), the Brazilian National Biennial (1974) as well as in Germany (1992) and France (1970, 1977).
