About the Item

The Misunderstanding of Capogrossi is the name of a lot composed of two autograph letters dated and signed by Giuseppe Capogrossi to the Countess Anna Laetizia Pecci- Blunt. Rome, November 24th, 1938; Rome, February 22nd, 1939. One page, single-sided. In 8°. In Italian. Excellent conditions, with usual medial folds of the paper and a minor stain on lower margin of the first letter. Interesting letters concerning the sale of the "Arlecchino con mandala" during the Capogrossi's exhibition in New York in 1938. The artwork was sold for a paltry sum: it resolved a misunderstanding with the help of the Countess. Giuseppe Capogrossi (1900-1972) was an Italian member of the Informal, together with Lucio Fontana and Alberto Burri. He realized a very personal Abstractism featured by a single shape-sign he combined in endless variations.
