Maurice Barraud
Maurice Barraud, born February 20, 1889 in Geneva and died November 11, 1954 in the same city, is a Swiss painter and illustrator. Maurice Barraud followed an apprenticeship as an advertising designer and opened his own studio in 1909. During this period, he was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva before devoting himself entirely to painting in 19132. In 1914, at the Following his first exhibition at the Moos gallery, he founded the “Falot” group with his brother François Barraud, Hans Berger, Emile Bressler and Gustave Buchet. From 1923 to 1924, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in Paris, he visited Spain, Algeria and Italy. From 1929, he produced several murals at Lucerne station, at Bienne station, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, at the Museum of Federal Charters in Schwyz, and at the University of Fribourg. He illustrated several works, notably for the writers Francis Carco, Jean Giraudoux and Jacques Chenevière. From 1917 to 1919, he participated in the illustration and layout of the art and literature magazine L'Éventail. A street in Geneva bears the name of the artist.
