This painting captures the setting sun over a game trail in Rockaway, NJ, artist Onelio Marrero’s hometown. A cold snap coated the ground, highlighting the tracks of passing deer. Onelio painted this scene looking west at sunset, using spontaneous brushwork and bold impasto. The striking contrast of colors reflects the magnificence of winter sunlight.

Artist Onelio Marrero paints impressionist scenes that capture the romanticism of New York City or the soothing quiet of a rippling pond. When he’s not painting, Onelio spends time with his grandchildren and immediate family, cultivates bonsai plants, and reads.
