About the Item

‘CV294’ is a cut and shaped high density polymer artwork by Argentinan artist, Abel Ventoso. It is signed verso, "Ventoso 2013” Along with Héctor and Jorge Ventoso (engineers), Abel Ventoso is a member of the Ventoso Family Artistic Collective, formed in 2006, which shows and sells under the joint name "Ventoso." The Collective works exclusively in high-density polymer, a deliberate departure from traditional "noble" art materials. High-density polymer is used specifically for its versatility, durability, resistance to humidity, and light weight compared to wood. These practical properties also carry conceptual weight, affirming the works as deliberately industrial and non-traditional. The artists themselves have described this choice as conceptually significant, reinforcing abstraction as a human-made construct rather than referencing nature. The Collective's work is rigorously geometric abstraction, built from precisely programmed compositions that generate volumetric, optical effects. Individual works emphasize spatial and assembly relationships and the physical experience of the viewer in front of the piece, consistent with the broader Op Art and geometric abstraction traditions which the Ventoso Collective cite as its lineage. ‘CV294’ is positioned within this lineage of 20th-century geometric abstraction masters, particularly the Argentine and Venezuelan kinetic/optical traditions. The Collective has been represented by Puerta Roja (Hong Kong) since 2016 and showed at Galerie Denise René, Paris, in 2016 — a notable placement, since that gallery has historically represented Soto and other kinetic-art masters.
