About the Item

'These Are the Very Ones' is a mixed media on canvas abstract painting of square format created by American artist Annie King in 2022. Featuring a palette made of red, black, pink, white and blue among other tones, this painting showcases joyous fields of colors playing with one another and contrasting with the white negative space that surrounds them beautifully. Unframed, this square mixed media on canvas abstract painting is signed lower right. Art has always been an essential element of Annie's being. As a little girl, she was constantly creating art. Whether it was carving shapes out of sticks outside or painting and drawing enormous (and undesired by her parents) murals on the walls in her childhood home, her yearning to create was innate. She began to focus this instinct towards painting, and eventually found herself evolving as an artist. After graduating with a BFA from the University of Georgia, she was eager to spread her passion for art. She began teaching art while maintaining a consistent practice in her own painting. During this time, she recognized how art was serving a therapeutic value. She developed a strong appreciation for how art making was connecting her to Self: spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. She felt and saw in some of her students how the expression, process, and production of art generated a sense of healing. This belief led her to pursue a career in art therapy. After earning a Masters in Art Therapy and Clinical Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School, she worked primarily with children struggling with issues of neglect, trauma, and abuse. The world of art has been an amazing adventure for her. From art educator to art therapist, she has always remained rooted in her own growth as an artist. Currently, she is devoting her attention to motherhood and painting full time as she faithfully allows this artistic journey to entrance her.
