About the Item

CAROLINA PONTE Crochet, 2016 60 x 200 inches (150 x 500 cm) Acrylic on Linen Magnificent Acrylic Painting on Linen. Unique. The extended present time and the attention in it appear as very distant and opposed to contemporary anxieties. Colors, shapes and symbols are take turns and overlap in Carolina Ponte’s work, in an excess that is justified in itself. Our eyes walk in a vibrant tangle that saturates our retina and that leads us through this excess and repetition of patterns, to an atmosphere contemplative of emptiness and silence, just as it happens when we repeat a mantra, that on the other hand forces us to look for white spaces, and from them (whites) to return once more to the ecstasy of that pulsating chromatic vibration. Ponte makes a circularity between harmony and chaos, instigates us to investigate what it is that reflects contemporary reality through actions and gestures such as the desire to fill and occupy spaces, the return to patterns, all as a way to ironize the globalization. The search for a quiet and gloomy job, which does not give up manual trade, moving away from industrial coldness. The subtlety of Carolina’s work it mystifies and dislocates from the commonplace, there is an inconvenient, human line, which sensitive trap, makes us abandon all expectations of perfection.

Located in Los Angeles, CA

This is a beautiful, abstract expressionist oil painting on linen by Alexis Portilla. This piece is in 2 panels. He obtained his Masters of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1990. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts. Influenced by the emotion of artistic expression in music, poetry and literature, the artist finds bold expression in color, lines and shapes that resemble pictographs, and texture. “Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Brushy areas of color suggest the indeterminacy of memory, while bold linear forms speak for the present.” “In some of his smaller works, Portilla experimented with beeswax. Applying a smooth coat of wax over the surface, the artist sealed in his sparse, abstract forms, while leaving whole sections empty, the images hover in the wax, as if frozen in time, yet the pieces have a fresh, almost dewy look.” - Meredith Mendelsohn, Art News magazine review. The artist has shown in group and solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His works have been commissioned by major corporations, universities and for private collections.
