Offered at a special price. One of The Hampton's most popular and sort after urban Pop artists whose work is collected by Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Alice Cooper among others. He has been call the "Rock and Roll Painter" and "Painter of the Stars of Rock" by the media. This is an early abstract Illusion painting from 1979 by Ceravolo. He was one of the artists, along with James Havard, Michael Gallagher, George Green, Joe Doyle and Jack Lembeck that were creating the Abstract Illusion movement in the the 1970's. This painting from 1979 is right before Ceravolo started combining his realistic figure paintings with his abstract illusion painting within the same canvas. Those combination paintings became known as his "Portrait Illusion" paintings. This is one of only two early 1979 abstract Illusion paintings that we have at the gallery that were prior to his portrait illusion work. We have included in this listing an image of Ceravolo with some of his famous collectors. His paintings can be found in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M. HEFNER, DAVID BRENNER, MONIQUE VAN VOOREN, WARNER BROS., RCA RECORDS AND SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES to name a few. Ceravolo's portrait paintings came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create five large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City of Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Zappa, Neil Young and Hall and Oates. This abstract illusion painting is an important work that bridged the combination of his realistic figures with his abstract work on the same canvas. James Havard is considered one of the "pioneers of the abstract illusionism movement" One of James Havard's homes and studio's was on the island of Tortola and this work from 1979 evokes the feel of the aqua blue waters and the reference of Salt Island in the painting refers to the island of Tortola and the feel of the ocean waters. In the 1970's Havard was the principle artist that started working in an abstract style that included gestural brush strokes and paint squeezed directly from the tube to create beautiful surface textures in his paintings. He then painted shadows to certain areas of paint to create the 3d illusion of depth to his paintings. This created the "Abstract Illusion" movement of the 1970's.
