About the Item

Souvenir 49 (2013) by César Delgado is a striking example of the artist’s exploration of abstraction and materiality. Executed in digital print and resin on Dibond, this work belongs to a limited edition of five, numbered 3 of 5. Delgado’s practice could be compared to that of a scientist in a laboratory, observing a world of minute organisms under a microscope. Serpentine forms and intertwined lines define fluid paths, where earthy browns blend with pure whites in dynamic and baroque convolutions. Horizontal bands occasionally interrupt the scene, reminding us that this scientific world is also an artistic one, where each precise brushstroke connects to the cool, impersonal gestures of Pop Art. His work embodies painting for the sake of painting — abstraction as an end in itself. Delgado dissects and reconfigures the very structure of pictorial language, like a paleontologist uncovering fossilized shells from the history of art. The result is a body of work that merges the lyrical abstraction of Kandinsky with the critical, graphic precision of Lichtenstein.
