About the Item

Sap Green, Forget Me Not, and Prussian Blue Trio Combo by Chloe Hedden offers a contemplative journey through emotional tone, natural reference, and material excess. In this trio, Hedden pairs sculptural impasto with evocative, monochromatic palettes to explore the expressive force of color and texture within her Excess series. Sap Green exudes an earthy density, conjuring lush foliage and organic growth. The deep green, paired with swirling, layered strokes, feels grounded yet unruly—an embodiment of nature’s untamed abundance. Forget Me Not introduces a softer, cooler tone. Its powdery blue evokes delicacy and memory, but the chaotic texture disrupts any sense of calm, mirroring the fragile persistence of emotion. Prussian Blue returns to shadow and weight—a dense, moody hue that deepens the psychological register of the group, anchoring the trio with a sense of introspection and stillness. Together, these works speak to the Excessivist impulse in Hedden’s practice: an intentional overindulgence in material and gesture that critiques control, restraint, and consumer aesthetics. The trio draws the viewer into a tactile experience of color, where beauty emerges not from polish, but from raw, unapologetic presence. A painting from Chloe's "Excessivism" series where she explores the excessive use of paint to express her feelings about the current state of the world. The works are pure abstraction and usually often employ bright colors used in the commercial world. Brush strokes are impulsive and are left unaltered to capture her mood at the time of making. About the ideology of "Excessivism"; it is a reflection, examination, or investigation of every aspect of life in excessive state with particular consideration to the areas that have real and consequential effect on the members of the society. Subject areas are, but not limited to, economics, politics and psychology. In the area of economics it is a commentary on economic materialism. It reflects, examines and investigates the excessive desire to acquire material goods beyond one's needs and often means. "Excessivism" depicts the excessive use of resources in an exaggerated way, by means of two- or three-dimensional visual creations, written or spoken words, or in any other manner. It aims at a reflection, examination, or investigation of the capitalist system, devoid of aesthetic, legal, commercial, ethical, moral, racial, or religious considerations." --Wikipedia keywords; contemporary use of paint, bright and vivid colors, women artists, wall hanging, materiality folds, process-based, dynamism, wall sculpture, abstract art, minimalism and contemporary minimalism, pastel, rough, biomorphic, thick brush strokes, painterly, monochrome, line, form, and color, focus on materials, abstract sculpture About artist: Born in Utah (USA), Chloe Hedden looks for the unseen patterns and hidden narratives that reveal the magnificence in all things. According to the artist, there is a still point in every moment and to capture this essential luminescence is what she aims for in her practice. Chloe makes use of archetypes from the cultural and mystical history to inform her work. It is through this inspiration that she created her latest body of work comprised of intricately folded Burlap wall sculptures. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, Chloe's paintings and sculptures can be found in numerous public and private collections.
