Vermillion Excess from Chloe Hedden’s Excess series embodies the interplay between material abundance and emotional intensity through thick, sculptural layers of paint. The bold vermillion hue radiates warmth and energy, evoking passion, urgency, and vitality, yet the swirling, chaotic texture introduces a sense of turbulence and movement, disrupting any notion of stability. The heavily applied paint creates a tactile, almost molten surface, blurring the line between painting and sculpture. This dynamic tension between weight and airiness reflects themes of excess, consumption, and the overwhelming nature of modern life. The work invites the viewer to contemplate the balance between beauty and overindulgence, control and abandon. By allowing the paint to hold its raw, organic form, Hedden challenges traditional notions of minimalism and restraint, instead celebrating the visceral, physical presence of color and materiality in contemporary art. *Inquire about groupings of multiple pieces.
