About the Item

The Birth of Silent Worlds is a unique painting by French contemporary artist Frédérique Domergue. This painting is made with oxidized zinc and bronze leaves on honeycomb aluminum panel, patina fixed with beeswax, dimensions are 200 × 300 cm (78.7 × 118.1 in). This piece is a diptych, composed of two panels measuring 200 × 150 cm each (approximately 78.7 × 59 in). The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Frédérique Domergue draws inspiration from nature and the sea. Her paintings evoke landscapes, skies, and seascapes that oscillate between serenity and turbulence, sometimes calm and meditative, other times dark and dramatic. Fascinated by metal, Domergue has developed a singular two-dimensional practice that bridges painting and sculpture. Her works incorporate relief and surface treatment, exploring a nuanced palette achieved through oxidation. Using thin sheets of metal affixed to aluminum panels, she patiently polishes and oxidizes the surface until it radiates a warm, silky finish, inviting viewers to engage not only visually, but also through touch.
