About the Item

This abstract composition is created on designer grey paper, where the neutral ground becomes an active participant in the visual dialogue. The muted surface absorbs and reflects the layered gestures, allowing both intensity and restraint to coexist within the same space. Igor Volkov-Kachynskyi builds the work through a process of layering, where cold and warm contrasts are placed in deliberate tension. Deep blues, violets, and cool tonal transitions intersect with bursts of ochre, crimson, and heated accents, generating a dynamic equilibrium. These opposing temperatures do not cancel one another; instead, they amplify presence, creating a pulsating field of perception. The composition resists hierarchy. Forms emerge through accumulation rather than outline, dissolving into one another as if guided by an internal rhythm. Each layer partially conceals the previous one, preserving traces of earlier decisions and embedding time into the surface of the work. The brushwork is expressive and unrestrained, yet controlled in its balance of weight and transparency. Some strokes assert themselves with density, while others remain almost ephemeral, allowing the grey paper to breathe through the composition. This interplay between coverage and openness generates depth without relying on traditional perspective. The painting operates as a study of contrast — not only in color temperature, but in energy, density, and presence. It invites the viewer to move across the surface, experiencing shifts between calm and intensity, distance and immediacy. In this layered field, the image becomes less about form and more about sensation — a visual experience unfolding through the tension of opposites.

Born in Lima, Peru, Victor-Raul Garcia was raised by his maternal grandmother with whom he immigrated to the United States at age 6. An abstract painter and collage artist, he has lived and worked in Europe and the US, and currently maintains his studio in Sullivan County, NY. His auto-didactic work is the result of a relentless passion to make his own reality, an innate resourcefulness and curiosity, endless days of continued experimentation, and an all-encompassing necessity to communicate through art. His art has been described as a subtle romance between expressionism and street art. By intertwining tactile and non-tactile elements through multi-layering techniques, he mirrors the complexities of his personal story, the absurdities of past and present history, and the altered state...

Abstract, 1971 By Dan Howard (b. 1931) Unframed: 29" x 35" Framed: 30" x 36" Signed Lower Left Influenced by artists of such varying styles as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, De Kooning and Jack Levine, as well as many of the German Neo-Expressionists*, Dan Howard's work often blurs the line between representational* and abstract art*. His experimentation with different canvas preparations, his use of intense colors and his expressive brush strokes have created a myriad of visual combinations in his characteristic larger-sized oil paintings. The result is an emphasis on audience participation and the role of individual interpretation. "I want to make the viewer part of the process. That makes for a richer experience," Howard says. Throughout his career, Howard has been both a dedicated art teacher-administrator and a gifted professional artist. He chaired the departments of art at Arkansas State University, Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Howard has received 100 prizes, awards and honors including the top awards in the three longest running national open painting competitions: Society of Four Arts, Palm Beach, Fla.; Butler Institute, Youngstown, Ohio; and Chautauqua Institution, New York. The Omaha World-Herald has acknowledged Howard as "Nebraska's leading award-winning artist." His work is a part of more than 600 public, private and corporate collections including Hallmark Cards, West Law Publishing, United Airlines, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing (3M), Holiday Inn...
