About the Item

Organic lines and shapes of various greens stretch and grown throughout a field of crimson tints, in this 2015 work by Laurie Barmore. The texture created in the green drips, creates a relief effect creating the illusion of this organic mass hovering in the vastness of the works middle ground. From the artist: "It is these immaterial and internal ideas and feelings that I explore in my paintings. Creating is about paying attention in noticing the particular. I find my inspiration in poetry, nature, and the universal rhythms of life. I love that “things” can be metaphors for greater truths. I’m intrigued by the form, line, and patterns found in nature and of the story they tell. Not the obvious one that defines and object, but the narrative that portrays the intangible, the veiled, the mysterious. The way, for example, peeling bark tells me not merely about the tree or the nature of bark, but also about revelation, vulnerability, and transparency. As such, my paintings are about life; a blending of the external and internal, matter and spirit, observation and response." California artist, Laurie Barmore, is an abstract expressionist painter. Developing her own techniques with an underlying structure and multiple layers, Laurie's work is rich with texture, color, and movement and has been described as "visual poetry". Poetry, in fact, inspires her work, as well as a love of the forms and designs found in nature and the deep core questions and human experiences common to us all.
