About the Item

Missak Terzian is a Lebanese-American contemporary visual artist of Armenian descent born in 1949 in Beirut. Renowned for his semi-abstract figurative and modern abstract expressionist works, Terzian has made a significant impact in the art world. He embarked on his artistic journey with studies at Ecole d’Art Guvder in 1968 and later graduated from the London College of Printing in 1971. In 1984, Terzian unveiled his first major exhibition, marking the beginning of a successful career that has seen him participate in 147 exhibitions globally. Over the years, Terzian transitioned from semi-abstract figurative expressionism to modern geometric abstraction, showcasing his versatility as an artist. His remarkable paintings can be found in prestigious collections across various countries, including Europe, the United States, Canada, Lebanon, Armenia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Republic of China. Institutions worldwide proudly exhibit Terzian’s works, which are highly coveted by distinguished art collectors. His art is permanently displayed in esteemed locations such as the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Dubai Collection, the Bank of Sharjah head office, the Dalloul Art Foundation, The Mokbel Art Collection, and several other prominent institutions, namely the Musée Nicolas Sursock in Beirut. Exploring themes of transcendence, spirituality, and the human connection to nature, Terzian’s art stands as a testament to the enduring power of creativity in the face of adversity. Through his dynamic works that capture human emotions and experiences, Terzian encapsulates life’s challenges and triumphs on colorful canvases that invite viewers into worlds where emotions resonate, and art becomes a timeless expression of the human spirit. Driven by an intrinsic desire to create, Terzian delves into existentialism through art, aiming to capture the essence of time and events in his canvases. Nature serves as a primary inspiration for his work, with Terzian stating, “As a painter, I mark time with memories and baptize them with colors,” underscoring the profound impact of the natural world on his artistic expression. Ben Abounassif was born in Caracas in 1964 to Lebanese parents. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1987 with a B.A. in Business Management. Abounassif's first contact working in the art world was in 2006 when he launched Leiter Gallery in Miami, a short but successful experience as a co-owner working along with Cuban-born, Miami-based artist Sinuhe Vega Leiter, and Venezuelan-born internationalist & journalist, Jesus Rojas Torres. Abounassif's innate creativity was highly influenced by working closely with local artists and by visiting their studios and launching exhibitions at Leiter's, the only gallery in the U.S. that paid a living tribute to the late Cuban musician, Israel “Cachao" López. A year later in 2007, Abounassif exhibited his first art cube on Photo Miami '07 with Hardcore Contemporary Art in Wynwood. In 2008, Miami art dealer...

Youri Leroux comes from the North of France, a region whose landscapes have seduced so many artists. Born in 1972, now married with three children, he is characterised by his reserve, his typical northern France inwardness and his sentimental attachment to his family and his origins. From a very young age, he showed great interest in art and any thing that gave free reign to his imagination. He attended classes offered by painting workshops At the age of sixteen, he went to the Saint-Luc Institute in Tournai (Belgium) where he studied new arts teaching and met famous artists. He later attended architecture and design classes. After gaining his diploma in 1999, he joined an architect’s office in Lille (France) where he worked principally with volume, colours and the enhancement of light. His first exhibition was held at Le Masquerel (France) and included fifteen artists. He sold his first paintings. The highlights of 1997 and 1998 were his wedding and the birth of his first child. His painting evolved, his work focused more on the curves of the female body and the plumpness, sensuality, shapes and shadows that it emanate. After traveling in North Africa, be began to focus on his backing material – sand was a very successful and impressive medium, giving the viewer the urge to approach and caress his paintings. In 2000, he traveled to New York, where he feasted on verticality and asymmetries that were in sharp contrast to his supple work on the female body. In early 2001, encouraged by true art lovers and the success of his paintings, he left his job as an architect to devote himself to his art. He subsequently applied these geometric ideas in a literary theme, more intimate and reassuring – perspectives, depth, repetitions, an enormous library or just three books with straight lines and the effects afforded by contrasting materials. Looking out from his open workshop, many things inspire him. Through the lovely Breton coast, he reveals to us his third pictorial theme – the combination of feminine curves and asymmetric libraries suggest old sailboat...
