About the Item

Important work by the artist, were exhibited at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Radical Innovations, 2024-25. Signed lower right. Natalia Dumitresco (or Dumitrescu) was born in Bucharest in 1915 and died in Chars in 1997. After studying at the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts, she married Alexandre Istrati in 1939. She worked and exhibited in Romania for seven years before leaving for France in 1947. Upon arriving in Paris, the couple was welcomed by their compatriot, the sculptor Constantin Brancusi. Initially highly constructivist, his constantly evolving work evokes built structures, urban plans, and aerial views. Ranging from rigorous constructions in sober tones (sometimes simply black and white) to airy and colorful canvases, the line always predominates. Friends to the end, Brancusi appointed the couple as his executor, and they now share a grave in the Montparnasse Cemetery.
