About the Item

Elegant and sophisticated work by Julio Sendino titled “Qvadrum,” created using the water-based encaustic technique. An abstract and geometric composition that evokes balance, harmony, and solidity through colors and structured shapes. This painting will bring a vibrant and contemplative energy to any space. This work was a finalist in the 7th Camarote Madrid Painting Competition 2019 in León. The central structure of the painting is reminiscent of symbolic architecture, a sort of altar or primary construction rising against an earthy background. The upper section, with figures in broken dark tones, suggests an urban or mountainous silhouette silhouetted against a golden sky. The lower vertical lines, almost hidden, reinforce the sense of stability. The work plays with the perception of volume and two-dimensionality, giving rise to an open, spiritual, or even ritual interpretation, where each shape seems to contain a hidden meaning. About water-based encaustic: Water-based encaustic is a painting technique that uses beeswax as a binder, but instead of applying it hot as in traditional encaustic, it is emulsified in water using natural emulsifiers such as Marseille soap or borax. This allows for a stable painting paste to be obtained when mixed with pigments, without the need for heat or solvents. The resulting paint is applied cold to porous substrates such as wood, cardboard, or prepared canvas. When dry, it produces a matte, velvety, and slightly water-resistant surface. Although it doesn't achieve the intensity of shine or transparency of hot encaustic, it offers a very distinctive and natural texture. This technique has been revived by contemporary artists seeking sustainable and less toxic processes. Its main advantage lies in the combination of the strength and durability of wax with the accessibility of cold working, making it an attractive option for both its aesthetics and its low environmental impact. Furthermore, since it doesn't require heat or solvents, it allows for a safer and more organic artistic experience, with unique finishes that reflect the materiality of the elements used. The painting is signed Julio Sendino Julio Sendino is an artist from Valladolid whose training in drawing and painting has allowed him to develop his artistic work through various forms of expression, playing with the figurative and the abstract. Geometric abstraction is one of the movements of abstract art that emerged around the 1920s and is based on the use of simple geometric shapes combined in subjective compositions. It is also an exaltation of two-dimensionality and a critique of the efforts of artists from earlier movements to represent reality in three dimensions. Wassily Kandinsky is the most recognized and influential artist, followed by Malevich and Mondrian.
