About the Item

Adriana van Zoest Overdue 65 x 45 cm Framed 77 x 55 cm ( Frame is included in price) Oil paint on wood panel (2024) Various subjects Adriana van Zoest's paintings are not easy to classify under one heading. We roughly divide the subjects she prefers to paint into three. Still lifes Virtuoso still lifes, with ultimate perfection as the main goal. In these works she tries to achieve the ultimate illusion technically, based on traditional painting techniques. Her subjects range from tubers to flowers and from a Roman vase to a Mirror Ball. Beautiful materials that are never translated 'one-on-one' into paint by the artist. Adriana van Zoest explains how the objects are used as a source of inspiration. The artist then 'manipulates' to his heart's content. Van Zoest creates his own reality with light and color, for example. Animal still lifes The still lifes of deceased animals make for particularly appealing paintings. The animals appear to be portrayed at the moment when death has just occurred. Their beauty is preserved in this way for eternity. There appears to be a sleeping state, the position and composition in which the animals are depicted reveal that death has occurred. The surprising and contemporary paintings were created after a process of studies in oil paint and then displayed in various layers on the panel in the final form. The technical perfection ensures that the reality, despite the added individuality of the artist, remains sensational, no matter how long you continue to look. Animal portraits The fact that the artist is an animal lover is also evident in the still lifes of the deceased animals. This is certainly also reflected in the portraits that Adriana van Zoest has made of the living animals. 'The cat' is a clear favorite. Yet, in addition to various types of cats, various fish can be seen. A greater difference in skin than between these two animal species is perhaps not conceivable. Here too, the artist shows her desire to exceed perfection and it is almost unimaginable to see how picturesque and also "real and colorful" the animals are depicted. Radishes (Contemporary Still Life Study in Light Box with Diffused Light)

By David Halliday

Located in Hudson, NY

11.25 x 11.25 inches unframed Archival pigment print edition of 12 Some of David Halliday's most engaging works are those from his Box Series in which he merges traditional ideas about light and composition with contemporary experiments. In this series an empty cookie tin becomes a tiny studio for food objects. Halliday carefully styles his photographic subjects inside and, allowing only natural light to seep in through a circular window. The results feel less like still lifes and more like intimate portraits of human sustenance. In these photographs, the fleshy curves of a fig, the slick bodies of sardines, even the homeliest porcini mushrooms possess a degree of nobility, providing a refreshing contrast to the compulsive relationship we so often have with food, reminding us to slow down and savor with gratitude. In this particular image, a bunch of radishes with their deep pink skins are are gently brushed with the natural diffused light, echoing techniques associated with a Vermeer painting! About the work: The Past Still Present: A master of light, New Orleans photographer David Halliday produces lush and elegant images that are both classical and modern. Using window...
