About the Item

Contemplation - Young boys enjoy playing in the surf on a warm summer's day in Southern California. The older one, leaning into the sand and letting the ocean waves roll over him, may be contemplating what to do next. The younger boy is raking the wet sand with his fingers, cooling his hands off or searching for underwater creatures. Fine artist Carole Garland enjoys capturing candid moments at the beach where young children, teenagers or adults unselfconsciously bask in the warmth of the midday sun. In this work, Garland evokes the Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla, who masterfully painted the color of light. Carole Garland studied art and art history at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois; figure drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago and oil painting at the University of the Americas in Mexico City. Her love of the figure has led to a series of beach scene paintings which have been shown in venues throughout Southern California. Her most recent exhibits have been at the Santa Paula Art Museum; the Betsy Leuk Art Center in Burbank; Kathryn Design Studios, Montecito, to name just a few. She is in art collections throughout the United States.
