About the Item

Composition Size: 20" x 30" Framed Size: 30.5" x 40.25" Signed, bottom right. In this spirited oil on canvas painting by Charles Shaw captures the rhythmic vitality and festive grace of four dancers in mid-performance. Dancing Señoritas is a celebration of movement and traditional attire, rendered with a warm, sunny palette that suggests the golden light of a Latin American courtyard. Shaw’s illustrative brushwork brings the swirling skirts and intricate ruffles to life, using bold highlights and expressive shadows to define the unique personality and pose of each dancer. The background is a soft, atmospheric space of ochre that supports the focus on the kinetic energy and joyful camaraderie of the dancers. This composition serves as a vibrant homage to cultural heritage and the universal language of dance, executed with a sophisticated sense of light and narrative charm. This oil on board painting is handsomely framed and ready to hang. About the Artist: Charles William Shaw was a multifaceted American Postwar & Contemporary artist from Austin, Texas. Primarily known for his narrative artworks, Shaw's pieces are currently on display at the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University in San Marcos, and his work had previously graced the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. His artistic journey was shaped by influences such as Malcolm Thurgood, whom he studied life drawing with, as well as notable figures like Howard Pyle, John Singer Sargent, Frans Hals, and Norman Rockwell, who sponsored Shaw into the prestigious Society of Illustrators in New York. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Shaw was also an accomplished author and served as the art director for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine. Shaw's oeuvre often celebrated Texas frontier lifestyles, children, and jazz musicians, and he left his artistic imprint on books like "Impressions of Texas" (1986) and James Michener's renowned work "Texas" (1985).

Margaret Putnam (1913-1989) San Antonio Artist Image Size: 14.25 x 13.25 Frame Size: 20.25 x 21.25 Medium: Mixed Media "The Dance" Biography Margaret Putnam (1913-1989) Margaret Putnam left an artistic legacy rare even in the art world. Revered for her innovative techniques and inimitable style prior to her death in 1989 , her renown continues today. She was a 20th century woman with a Renaissance soul who lavished her work with brilliant color, always breaking and making the rules to achieve the desired effect. An explorer, Putnam was basically self-taught; it could not be otherwise because no one had the vision that she had. She worked in oil, watercolor, wax resist, casein, and pastel, exploring new avenues, developing new techniques, combining mediums, and creating a unique style, instantly recognizable, unlike any other. A background in fashion illustration was evident in the color, texture, and design that adorned both male and female figures. In abstract work, there was always a keen but unique sense of design. She worked over 8 hours a day, 363 days a year. Even after becoming partially paralyzed from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig...
