Innocent Chikezie (Nigerian, born 1982) "Friends" 2022 Acrylic Paint, Canvas, Stretcher Bars The artist signed the bottom right of the painting. “Friends” by Innocent Chikezie is a vibrant contemporary figurative painting that celebrates warmth, intimacy, and human connection. Through bold strokes and radiant colors, Chikezie captures two figures in a moment of closeness, their gestures infused with tenderness and familiarity. The interplay of glowing yellows, deep purples, and fiery reds gives the work both emotional depth and visual energy. This painting is a striking example of Chikezie’s ability to merge expressive abstraction with deeply human storytelling. About the Artist: Innocent Chikezie is an artist who harnesses the beauty of colors to create a certain brilliance in his work, which portrays the graceful ambiance of African culture. Using his dexterity and ability to blend colors, he recreates the dynamic of rural life against a backdrop of indigenous African landscapes. But it wasn’t until he left Nigeria for the UK that he experienced a dramatic culture shock. The resulting nostalgia empowered him to find solace in traditional paintings that embodied the essence of his native land. He earned an MA in Fine Arts from the School of Art and Design, Nottingham Trent University, UK. Chikezie’s works have been featured in exhibitions at Nottingham City Council and earned features in the Nottingham newspaper. He has also been interviewed by BBC Nottingham radio, after which some UK magazine companies began publishing his paintings in their catalogs. His paintings express a profound appreciation for his ancestral roots. They are greatly influenced by a desire to showcase African culture, beauty, and lifestyle in immersive scenes captured on canvas using acrylics and oil. Chikezie lives in Nigeria and has had his artwork exhibited in several art galleries. He is also a member of various art societies, such as The Portrait Society of America, SAA Britain, and the Society of Nigerian Artists.
