Janusz Szpyt was born on June 8, 1960, in Komotini. He is a Polish painter. He graduated in graphic design from the Faculty of Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. 1983 onwards, he became a member of the Group of Three. “Even though a lot is shown in realist painting, one realizes that realism can always defend itself. Especially, when it tells us the truth about the world when it goes beyond the borders of naturalism and grasps our reality. The artist mainly paints Passion, scenes from the Bible and nudes. These paintings, regardless of their themes, always represent Man. This man is always in a precise situation. The events are shown in the background, tense muscles and expression on the face give the possibility to decipher the psychic and spiritual condition, which influence peoples’ behavior and their decisions. The artist not only shows the physical aspect of these models but also their psyche, by highlighting the truth, as the philosophers always strive to show. This is the reason why Szpyt's paintings are very humane in this time period, often devoid of humanism," said Katarzyna Napiórkowska about Janusz Szpyt.
