About the Item

Acrylic on canvas Eating at an Angkringan is the activity of enjoying simple food and drinks sold from a pushcart or small street stall typical of Java, such as nasi kucing (small portions of rice), fried snacks, skewered dishes, coffee, and warm herbal drinks, while sitting together in a relaxed, friendly, and down-to-earth atmosphere. This activity not only fulfills the need to eat but also serves as a social space where people chat, share stories, and experience togetherness without social barriers. At the front, a large kettle of ginger tea still releases wisps of steam, while black coffee is brewed simply—without fancy equipment, yet full of flavor. The Angkringan vendor smiles warmly, well aware of each customer’s habits: who prefers extra-crispy fritters, and who never forgets to add more chili sauce. Conversations flow effortlessly. Some talk about work, some complain about life, while others simply laugh at small, trivial things. At the Angkringan, everyone sits on equal footing—no titles, no distance. Just small plates, glass cups, and a shared sense of togetherness. As the nasi kucing is eaten slowly, its simplicity feels unexpectedly special. Tempeh, chili sauce, and warm rice come together, accompanied by sweet and savory quail egg satay. The night grows deeper, yet no one seems in a hurry to leave. An Angkringan is more than just a place to eat. It is a resting space, where the stomach is filled and the heart is soothed. There, in simplicity, human warmth feels most real.

Untitled Mohammad Ariyaei Contemporary Iranian art painting oriental art drawing

By Mohammad Ariyaei

Located in Paris, FR

Acrylic painting on paper Hand-signed by the artist lower left Unique work THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS OF MOHAMMAD ARIYAEI " Gentleness and oriental wisdom follow the supercharged bubbling to which we were accustomed from the previous deliberately art brut exhibition by Mohammad ARIYAEI. The Iranian painter's imagination moves serenely from the wildest frenzy to the meditative calm of great, fabulous stories. The artist then took pleasure in pouring the volcanic torrent of his barbaric figures onto the delicate latticework with which he is accustomed to lining his backgrounds with the patience of an illuminating monk. Already sweetness and paroxysm coexisted. Now gentleness wins. The trained imagination of the painter, yet spontaneously bubbling, by instinct as much as by erudition, has no difficulty in reconnecting with the abundant oriental tradition of the thousand and one nights, which, like a long underground river, resurfaces at the light of his painting. Spring renewal of traditions still alive. Systematic filling of space, a sort of oriental version of the Riches Heures...
