Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career that lasted 17-years. Beginning in 1992, she studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike, and others at the Scottsdale Art School and the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts. Her devotion to painting kept her busy attending numerous painters’ workshops each year; she never stopped learning, even when she became the teacher once again. She helped numerous students learn the art of painting at a community art league, as well as the Loveland Academy of Fine Art. Lu considered it a must to work from live models once or twice a week, and she thoroughly enjoyed portrait work. Her true passion was floral still-life. using material from her own beautifully landscaped garden to create stunning settings. Fruit, vessels and antiquities compliment her many still life paintings, and landscapes rounded out an extensive portfolio. Following her passing in 2009, her family started the Lu Haskew Endowment for the Arts, funding art supplies and scholarships in the Thompson School District where she taught. Proceeds from Lu's artwork continues to benefit this program, a legacy that continues her life-long efforts to promote the love of art and learning.

French Flower Market Scene Figures Parasols Impressionist Oil Painting

French Flower Market Scene Figures Parasols Impressionist Oil Painting

Located in Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Title French Flower Market Scene Figures Parasols Impressionist Oil Painting Key Details Artist: Paul Pellaro (French, 20th century) Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 41 x 34 inches (framed) Provenance: Private collection, South of France Condition: Very good condition Signature: Signed lower right Description A lively French market scene set beneath soft Provençal light, with figures browsing amongst abundant flower stalls. Pellaro arranges the composition along a gentle central path, drawing the eye through parasols, striped awnings, and bursts of colour from potted blooms. The palette is warm and balanced, with soft blues and greens in the distant hillside offset by the richer reds, pinks, and ochres in the foreground. The brushwork remains loose and impressionistic, giving the scene a sense of movement and ease rather than strict detail. The scale allows the painting to hold a room comfortably. It works particularly well in a sitting room or dining space where there is enough wall to let the composition breathe. The combination of soft sky tones and more saturated florals means it can sit easily within neutral interiors while still introducing colour and warmth. It also lends itself to spaces that benefit from a sense of openness or light, such as hallways or garden-facing rooms. There is a familiarity to scenes like this that continues to appeal. It sits comfortably within a broader tradition of 20th century French market painting...

La Rambla Barcelona Flower Market Street Scene Spanish Post-Impressionist Oil

La Rambla Barcelona Flower Market Street Scene Spanish Post-Impressionist Oil

Located in Sitges, Barcelona

La Rambla Barcelona Flower Market Street Scene Spanish Post-Impressionist Oil Painting 1978 Artist: Joan Joseph Garí (b. 1922) Title: Rambla de les Flors, Barcelona Medium: Oil on burlap Date: 1978 Signature: Signed lower left Condition: Good condition Frame: Unframed Dimensions: 33 × 41 cm (13 × 16.15 in) DESCRIPTION Charming street scene depicting the famous flower stalls of La Rambla in Barcelona painted in 1978 by Spanish artist Joan Joseph Garí. Executed in oil on burlap, the composition captures pedestrians moving through the lively urban promenade framed by colorful floral displays and warm Mediterranean evening light. The textured surface of the burlap enhances the painterly atmosphere and reinforces the expressive brushwork typical of post-impressionist Catalan urban painting of the late twentieth century. The work reflects a documentary yet atmospheric interpretation of Barcelona’s most iconic boulevard during a period when the Rambla remained a central social and cultural meeting point of the city. Joan Joseph Garí (Granollers, 1922) was a Catalan painter associated with post-impressionist landscape and urban scene painting. Trained in Granollers and at the School of Fine Arts in Cádiz, he began exhibiting regularly from the 1950s onward in Barcelona, Terrassa, Vic, Olot and Bilbao, later presenting work internationally in Florida and Acapulco. His paintings focus primarily on Mediterranean landscapes and Catalan urban environments rendered with dense chromatic structure and expressive surface texture characteristic of late twentieth-century Spanish post-impressionist practice. ARTISTIC CONTEXT / COMPARATIVE FIELD This Barcelona street scene belongs to the long tradition of Catalan urban painting developed from the atmospheric boulevard views of Santiago Rusiñol and Ramon Casas through the structured Mediterranean modernity of Joaquim Sunyer and later continued in twentieth-century Barcelona street interpretations by Josep Amat and Francesc Serra Castellet. The lively pedestrian rhythm and floral foreground arrangements also connect with the broader European urban impressionist lineage associated with Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard and lesser-known boulevard painters working in Paris and Barcelona throughout the twentieth century. barcelona rambla painting la rambla flower market barcelona street scene painting catalan urban painting spanish post impressionist painting mediterranean street scene european boulevard painting flower market painting...
