About the Item

Antique Italian painting from the first half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting an intense scene of mystical ecstasy of Saint Francis of Assisi. A large-scale painting, characterized by a dramatic and captivating composition, in which the saint, kneeling in the foreground, abandons himself to the divine vision amidst luminous clouds and angelic presences. The scene is constructed with refined sensitivity to light, in a harmonious dialogue between the earthly dimension, highlighted by the skull and cross, and the celestial dimension, represented by splendid cherubs among the clouds. A painting of remarkable pictorial quality, attributable to the central-northern Italian context of the early 18th century, close to the figurative culture of Emilia and the sensibility of Giuseppe Maria Crespi. The artwork is distinguished by its elegant chromaticism, the softness of the tonal transitions, and its strong spiritual charge. A monumental painting, perfect for stately spaces, large halls, or private chapels, where it can fully express its grandeur and decorative value.
