About the Item

Set of Three 19th century Tibetan Tsakali with Depictions of Dancing Dakinis Mineral pigment on paper Approximately 4 1/2 x 4 inches each (23 x 14 1/2 frame) It's important to note this are very fine examples of Tibetan tsakali; more akin to fine art than the usual Tibetan artifacts that are most usually found. This set would have been used as a part of a practice related to the Bardo or "the in between state" or the state of existence between death and rebirth, varying in length according to a person's conduct in life and manner of, or age at, death. The figures are dakinis related to this practice which the dakinis are particularly prevalent in Vajrayana Buddhism and have been particularly conceived in Tibetan Buddhism where the dakini, generally of volatile or wrathful tempera$1550ment, act somewhat as a muse (or inspirational thoughtform) for spiritual practice. Dakinis are energetic beings in female form, evocative of the movement of energy in space. In this context, the sky or space indicates shunyata, the insubstantiality of all phenomena, which is, at the same time, the pure potentiality for all possible manifestations.
