About the Item

19th century oil on canvas painting of a monk admiring a fish in a glass display cabinet holding a book behind his back, Probably the bible. By the well known artist Frank Hyde . The painting is signed and housed in a gilt moulded frame,probably the original.This is in good condition ,there are two beads missing from the inner top right and left hand side corners leaving a small gap as can be seen in top photo where the frame has also parted slightly.The frame however is still solid and painting held well within The size of the image is 53cm high 35cm wide whilst overall size is 62cm x 79cm In very good condition with no overpainting or restoration to the canvas. There is also a companion piece for sale showing the monk fishing. Discount available for both items bought together. Photos show painting lit and in a natural light. FRANK HYDE (1849 - 1937) Frank Hyde (1849–1937) was a British portrait and figure painter. He was a war artist and portrait painter, best known for his works of Capri. He also created comic characters for greeting cards for Raphael Tuck.
