Artist Comments
One of the artist Onelio Marrero's favorite haunts is a bookstore. He based this painting on an antique store in Lambertville, New Jersey, where two teenagers quietly read in the corner. The sight of two teens immersed in literature rather than electronic devices struck Onelio. The loose strokes enhance the relaxed and slightly disordered arrangement of the shelves.
About the Artist
Artist Onelio Marrero paints impressionist scenes that capture the romanticism of New York City or the soothing quiet of a rippling pond. His work evokes nostalgia and intimacy, giving the viewer a sense of having visited the same places before. “Each play of light, each texture, and each movement of a figure can have a captivating effect on me,†says Onelio. Living in New Jersey, he enjoys the luxury of having his favorite subjects to paint—whether it's the urban surroundings or the abundant nature just a short walk from his home. When he’s not painting, Onelio spends time with his grandchildren and immediate family, cultivates bonsai plants, and reads.
