Times Square New York City Reflections after the Rain by British Urban Landscape Artist, Angela Wakefield. Entitled “November Rain”, this unique original is a major work to continue her epic New York Series which now spans over a decade. Art measures 40 x 30 inches This striking contemporary cityscape captures the electric atmosphere of Times Square after rain, transforming one of the world's most recognisable urban locations into a luminous study of light, colour and reflection. Painted from an unusually low viewpoint, the composition immerses the viewer at street level, where pools of rainwater mirror the illuminated advertising screens and neon architecture above. Drawing upon the tradition of American urban realism while retaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility, Wakefield uses bold passages of turquoise, magenta, crimson and gold to create a dynamic interplay between the city and its reflected counterpart. The wet pavement becomes an abstract surface of fractured colour, allowing the work to move effortlessly between realism and abstraction. The dramatic perspective leads the eye deep into the composition, creating a powerful sense of scale and drawing attention to the soaring vertical structures that define Manhattan's iconic skyline. Human figures are reduced to silhouettes, emphasising the grandeur of the city itself and reinforcing themes of anonymity, movement and modern urban life.
