About the Item

Gorgeous turn of the 20th Century Mount Shasta landscape by Anna Carver Bingham (American, 1849 - 1924), 1901. Several deer gather around calm waters that are dotted with tall evergreen trees, with majestic mountains towering in the distance. Signed and dated "Anna Bingham 1901" lower left corner. Unframed. Image size: 15"H x 24"W. Condition: Good: Professionally cleaned and minor tear repaired. Anna Carver Bingham was born in Uhrichville, Ohio, November 24, 1849. Her father died in 1875 and in 1880 she came, with her mother, to St. Helena, her uncle, the late D.B. Carver, having been one of the most prominent pioneer residents of this town at that time. She was married to William A. Bingham in 1883. She was considered a talented Northern California artist and spent much of her time with the palette and brush and her work on canvas and china has attracted much admiration. Several of her paintings were displayed in the Art Gallery at the Floral Festival in St. Helena in 1891. She was hailed as “a very popular local artist” in an 1896 article from the Napa Journal.
