About the Item

Title: View of Village with Olive Groves and Mountains Artist: Antonio Reverte Oliva (Monteagudo, Murcia, 1943 – Gavà, Barcelona, 2014) Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 73 x 92 cm (approx. 28.7 x 36.2 in) Support: Unframed canvas Period: 1970s Signature: Signed in the lower right corner: “Reverte” Condition: Good. The front shows a stable surface with no paint loss or visible craquelure. The back exhibits natural oxidation of the linen and some traces of old moisture stains, which do not affect the structural integrity of the support or the pictorial image. Description This large-format work depicts a luminous and colorful Mediterranean village landscape, dominated by a hillside town whose houses cascade down the slope beneath a vibrant sky and rugged mountains in the background. A central bell tower church and a row of olive trees in the foreground add both depth and movement to the composition. Antonio Reverte demonstrates his signature figurative style, characterized by impasto brushstrokes rich in texture and a palette of pastel and earthy tones that convey light and harmony. The composition evokes an idealized and nostalgic vision of the Catalan countryside, possibly inspired by regions such as Penedès, the Costa Brava, or the inland areas of Maresme. About the Artist Antonio Reverte Oliva was a self-taught Spanish painter, born in 1943 in Monteagudo (Murcia), who settled at a young age in Catalonia. He lived in Sant Jaume d’Enveja, in the Ebro Delta, where he developed most of his artistic career. Over nearly five decades, Reverte cultivated a highly recognizable pictorial language focused on landscapes, Catalan architecture, and traditional scenes. He founded a painting school in Castelldefels and held more than 40 exhibitions, including international showings. His works are found in collections across Europe, America, and Asia. Artists with a Similar Style Rafael Durancamps: For his lyrical depiction of the Catalan landscape with loose brushwork and diffused light. Josep Amat: For his use of Mediterranean color and urban scenes of Barcelona. Joaquim Mir (in his later years): For his exaltation of the landscape through expressive brushstrokes. Ramón Pichot: In his post-impressionist phase, connected to the villages of southern France and Catalonia.

Framed: No. The painting is currently unframed. Style: Post-Impressionist Subject: Mediterranean hill town landscape Expressive Mediterranean landscape depicting a historic Spanish hill town crowned by a fortified structure overlooking clustered white and terracotta buildings. The composition is constructed through energetic, visible brushwork and a vibrant palette of warm earth tones contrasted with an intense blue sky. The artist organizes the architecture in rhythmic planes that guide the viewer’s eye upward toward the monumental structure dominating the skyline. The painting reflects the Mediterranean post-impressionist tradition, where color and structure take precedence over strict realism, resulting in a lively and decorative interpretation of the landscape. Works of this kind are particularly sought after for interior design projects thanks to their warm palette, architectural subject matter and timeless Mediterranean atmosphere. An attractive original painting combining decorative strength with the charm of mid-20th-century Spanish landscape painting. His work is characterized by vibrant color, spontaneous brushwork and a strong interest in landscape and architectural subjects. Throughout his career he has portrayed scenes from Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and other European locations, developing a style that balances expressive color with structural composition. Mediterranean Andalusian Townscape Carmona Spain Post Impressionist Oil painting

Mediterranean Andalusian Townscape Carmona Spain Post Impressionist Oil painting

By Rafael Duran Benet

Located in Sitges, Barcelona

Mediterranean Andalusian Townscape Carmona Spain Post Impressionist Oil Artist: Rafael Duran Benet Title: Carmona, Andalucía, España Technique: Oil on canvas laid on board Dimensions: 50 × 61 cm / 19.69 × 24.02 in Period: 2005 Signature: Signed lower right and titled/signed on verso Condition: Very good vintage condition. Stable pictorial surface with vivid original color. Unframed. Style: Post-Impressionist / Mediterranean Landscape Origin: Spain DESCRIPTION Radiant Mediterranean view of the historic Andalusian town of Carmona, painted by Catalan artist Rafael Duran Benet in 2005. The composition captures the sun-drenched architecture and rolling vegetation of southern Spain with a luminous palette and expressive post-impressionist brushwork. The painting balances architectural rhythm and atmospheric depth beautifully: whitewashed facades shimmer beneath an intense cobalt sky while olive-green and lavender tonalities animate the foreground landscape. The church tower rising in the distance gives the scene a timeless Iberian identity, somewhere between poetry and heatstroke Duran Benet’s handling of color reveals clear Mediterranean sensibilities, combining the chromatic vibration of Catalan post-impressionism with the warmth and serenity of Andalusian light. The thick yet controlled brushwork creates movement without sacrificing harmony, making the work especially decorative and highly versatile for contemporary interiors. This piece works exceptionally well within collectors’ searches for: Mediterranean paintings, Spanish landscapes, Andalusian townscapes, European post-impressionism, sunlit architecture, coastal aesthetics, and warm modern interiors. An elegant and highly atmospheric original painting with strong decorative presence and authentic southern European character. ARTISTIC CONTEXT The work evokes the luminous Mediterranean sensibility associated with painters such as Joaquim Mir, Rafael Benet, and certain late post-impressionist European landscape traditions. The chromatic intensity and architectural simplification also recall modern Spanish interpretations of Fauvist and Mediterranean painting. ARTIST BIO Rafael Duran Benet (Terrassa, 1931 – Barcelona, 2015) was a Catalan painter linked to the Mediterranean figurative tradition. Nephew of painter Rafael Benet, he developed a personal style characterized by strong chromatic contrasts, luminous landscapes, still lifes, and Mediterranean scenes infused with warmth and atmosphere. His work reflects a deep sensitivity to light and color, often focusing on Spanish coastal and inland landscapes rendered through expressive yet balanced brushwork. Duran Benet’s paintings are appreciated for their decorative elegance and authentic Mediterranean identity.
