Rather than re-creating a literal landscape on canvas or paper, I aim to express its essence in a rich and complex form of delicately painted organic subjects that float and trail across the surface. Fragmentary plant forms drift within color fields, at times receding into pool-like depths, and at others buoyed by surrounding luminescence that seems to rise out of the color and project beyond the surface. Deedra Ludwig was born in Chicago; has lived in Atlanta, New York City, Brighton, UK; and currently resides in New Orleans. She was a founding member of Eye Level Acme Studios in Brighton, UK, and has participated in numerous artist-in-residence programs, including US National Parks, the Sitka Center, the Cooper Union, the Hambidge Center & A Studio In The Woods. Awards include a Fulbright fellowship, a Fulton County Atlanta arts award, and a UK Arts Council grant. She received a BFA from New York University and studied art history at the University of Sussex. Her works are held at Emory University, Swedish Medical Center, Tokai International, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, National Parks Museum, Federal Reserve Bank, Miami Dade International Airport, Everglades National Park, Art In Embassies International, US Department Of Ecology, Ritz Carlton International Hotels and other public and private collections.

The Wave By Helen Robinson [2020] The Wave is one of a series of contemporary abstracted seascapes exploring the way light interacts with sky, earth and water. This work suggests the way light reflects on the ever-changing tidal channels which make intricate patterns through areas of saltmarsh. The use of bright colour, expressive brushmarks and tonal blending present a calm scene, with the suggestion of a white wave just below the horizon. Following a career in town planning, Helen pursued her interest in art and has now been painting regularly for over 15 years. In 2013, she obtained an Honours degree in Art History when she found she was drawn mostly to artists who painted light. Influences include the 17th century Dutch landscape painters and William Turner, particularly his works. Helen's recent paintings are contemporary sea and cloudscapes which have a strong sense of light, mystery and drama. Memories and photographs of travel and sailing experiences provide the starting point for her work which then evolves in a more abstracted way. She focuses on the way light interacts with sky, earth and water - both vast expanses of sea and intricate salt marshes with their detailed patterns of water...
