Dixey '44 In original frame 1944 Carll Tucker (1881–1956) was a prominent early 20th-century American financier, philanthropist, and notable yacht owner, famous for owning the massive 223-foot schooner Migrant. A member of the New York Yacht Club, he owned several large vessels, including Ohonkara and Ramona, often using them for high-society entertaining. Key details regarding Carll Tucker's yachts: Migrant: Built in 1929 by Lawley in Boston, this 223-foot, three-masted schooner was one of the largest private yachts of its time, used for cruising and entertaining in the 1930s. The US Navy acquired it in 1942 for WWII anti-submarine patrols. Carl Tucker's new three-masted schooner Migrant, built at Lawley's early this Summer, made its first appearance on the New York Yacht Club's cruise. Migrant, the largest schooner ever built in this country, broke out her sails for the first time yesterday though she is following the cruise under power. She is equipped with a 950-horsepower Diesel engine. The Lawley built three-masted Schooner Migrant. Designed by Henry Gielow Migrant was the largest yacht in the world at the time and was built at a cost exceeding one million dollars.
