About the Item

This 17.875" x 20.875" framed oil on canvas painting by Tbilisi, Georgia-based artist Erekle Chinchilakashvili depicts a rural, presumably Georgian cityscape. Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, blends ancient architecture with more modern styles, and there is a significant influence from the time the country spent as part of the Soviet Union. The composition would be monochromatic if it were not for the straw-yellow soil, pictured in the bottom center-left of the work. Erekle Chinchilakashvili is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work focuses on the intersectionality of reality and imagination within human perception. Themes of individual and collective memory consistently appear throughout this artist's work, whether that be through painting, video, or installation. Chinchilakashvili's sources are frequently found in the archives of public domain.
