About the Item

This luminous landscape is perfectly capturing the light of early spring. A boy is climbing over wooden farm gates, with a backdrop of rolling hills. The painting has a gloriously freshness to it, with a timeless quality, but also hint of art deco. It is a work from the 1930s by Eugène Maria Cordier (1903 -1974), an artist from Strasbourg. Cordier studied in Munich with Julius Diez, and worked in Germany as a commercial artist and graphic designer, specialising in posters. He was also an easel painter, and the oil on canvas presented here bears the rests of an exhibition label on the stretcher, probably from the Salon des Indépendants in Paris.

Painting of a Woman in a Landscape, France, Early 20th Century

Located in Auribeau sur Siagne, FR

Painting of a Woman in a Landscape, France, early 20th century. A charming figurative painting depicting a young woman strolling through a rural landscape bordered by trees, with a house visible in the background. Executed in a soft palette of greens, browns, and ochres, the work exudes a peaceful and poetic atmosphere characteristic of early 20th-century French painting. The free brushwork and diffused light evoke the Post-Impressionist and Naturalist influences of the period. The small-format composition invites intimate contemplation and demonstrates a particular sensitivity to rural scenes and outdoor walks. Presented in its antique gilt frame with a passe-partout, this work possesses all the charm of cabinet paintings and French genre scenes from the first half of the 20th century.
