About the Item

Kelly Carmody (b. 1977, Massachusetts) Rooted in realism, Carmody’s compositions start very traditional in subject and composition; however, she further transforms her skilled hand by painting a single subject in multiple mediums and palettes and then using her sketches reference; Carmody’s process has unearthed a unique point of view that feels both contemporary and harkens back to the studio’s of Henri Matisse, or Pierre Bonnard. Carmody has created a world that is beautiful, pleasant, and abundant. Carmody’s paintings play with this tension between flatness and depth as she translates subject into sketch, sketch into painting, and painting into another painting. She often selects compositions with distant backgrounds, close foregrounds, and complex middle-ground subject matter. The spaces are skillfully done, attributing a similar level of detail to each plane, yet remaining distinct with clear relationships. To achieve this level of cohesion in complexity speaks to Carmody’s restraint and skill for impressionism. The women in Carmody’s paintings are pensive, often lost in thought, settled onto chairs near unfinished activities; an open book downfacing on her lap, arms crossed near a bowl of cut fruit, a butter knife left on an empty plate. Surrounded by a rich palette and soft light, the figures in these paintings have a relaxed, contented, contemplative ease that vibrates from the painting and into the space around them.

"Dusk Walk Along Marine Park Drive" oil painting, boats docked in harbor, framed

By Emily Persson

Located in Sag Harbor, NY

"Dusk Walk Along Marine Park Drive" is a realistic impasto painting of Marine Park Drive in Sag Harbor, New York. Persson's impasto technique of the paint with her palette knife brings the reflection on the bay to life with striking realism, making this painting both a tactile delight and a precise visual recreation. Emily Persson is a Melbourne based artist who has been creating oil paintings with a palette knife for three years. Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia. Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Emily participated in many group exhibitions and fundraisers in 2018 including multiple shows in Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland. Emily has gained most of her notoriety from her popularity on Instagram where she has close to twelve thousand followers. Emily’s art has trended worldwide on social media and she has become a pioneer and mentor for other artists trying to find their online groove. Emily has drawn the eye of some of Australia’s most sought after interior designers including Thomas Hamel, Nina Provan, Lauren Li and has had her work displayed in some of Australia’s biggest lifestyle magazines including Belle and Country Style. Influenced by master artists such as Frederick McCubbin and Arthur Streeton and by the contemporaries such as Prudence Flint and Rick Amor...

Painted en plein air. Frame Dimensions: 9 x 15in Artist Bio: Nelson H. White was born in New London, Connecticut in 1932. White has been surrounded by art and artists from the time he was born. He received his earliest art instruction from his grandfather, Henry Cooke White (1861-1952) and his father Nelson Cooke White (1900-1989), both important American artists. The family lived in Waterford, Connecticut and the elder White had been an early member of the art colony in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Known for his paintings of the Connecticut landscape and shoreline, Henry Cooke White became a teacher to his son, Nelson Cooke White. Living with his parents at the Florence Griswold house in Old Lyme, he met some of the most important and influential artists of the day, Childe Hassam, Will Howe Foote and Harry Hoffman. Later, Nelson White's father began to take his family to summer on Shelter Island and became friendly with many of the artists of the Peconic colony such as Irving Wiles, an important American impressionist. After graduating from the Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts in 1951, Nelson H. White began to study at Mitchell College in Connecticut but left to pursue studies in the violin, musical theory and composition. At this time, he began to spend more time studying art with his father and grandfather. By 1955, Nelson H. White had decided to devote himself to a career as a painter and traveled to Florence, Italy to become an apprentice to Pietro Annigoni, the world-renowned Florentine master. Within two years, the young White had won two awards for his work. While in Florence he also studied with the great Italian teacher, Nerina Simi. Today, White divides his time between the United States and Florence. White is still actively involved with studies at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. Although he has received instruction from some very important artists, White's work is highly individual. He paints with great spirit...
