About the Item

Private Escape explores the idea of personal freedom hidden inside moments of humor, warmth, and apparent simplicity. At the center of the painting, an otter drifts effortlessly through a private Mediterranean pool, surrounded by sunlit plants, terracotta pots, cacti, and the quiet architecture of a secluded Moroccan courtyard. Beyond the terrace, the sea appears in the distance — open, calm, and unreachable in the same way as an imagined inner refuge. The scene feels playful and slightly absurd: the animal has entered a space that does not “belong” to it, yet behaves with complete ease, softness, and confidence. This subtle humor becomes part of the work’s emotional language. The painting reflects on the often invisible pressure imposed by society — expectations about productivity, behavior, appearance, and the constant need to justify rest or pleasure. Within this atmosphere, simple acts of self-permission can begin to feel almost rebellious. The floating otter becomes a symbol of unapologetic presence: a creature allowing itself to occupy space, enjoy warmth, and surrender to stillness without guilt. In this sense, the work speaks about reclaiming the ability to rest freely — to momentarily step outside social performance and reconnect with instinctive joy, comfort, and inner openness. Created through expressive brushwork and luminous Mediterranean color, Private Escape continues Ksenia Tsyganyuk’s exploration of the “inner garden” — a symbolic emotional landscape where light, memory, humor, and vulnerability coexist. The painting functions as both a visual refuge and a gentle invitation: to soften, to breathe, and to allow oneself moments of unearned peace.
