Signed lower right Landscape featuring sandstone formation with greenery and a stream in the foreground, larger mountains and pine trees in the background. This particular artwork is available on the secondary market from an original purchaser. It is in excellent condition. Additional images are available upon request. About the Artist: Lani is a native of Colorado now living on a few acres in the south part of the state, Olney Springs, a small town in Colorado, with her dogs and horses. Her work is known for simple shapes, values, and brushstrokes, expressing a myriad of subject matter including animals (wildlife and domestic), still life, landscapes and figures. Her goal is to evoke an emotional response to a subject reflecting her belief that all things, living and non-living, are equally significant and essential to the whole. "My art is an attempt to capture those 'first moments of longing' and suspend them visually through color, edges, and drawing. It is in those moments that we feel truly alive." Lani Vlaanderen has exhibited in the Colorado Governor's Show in Loveland, the 50th Anniversary Show of the Society of Animal Artists, the Hearts of the West Show at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, and the Greeley Stampede. She also was invited into the "Representing the West" in Pueblo. She studied with Kim English at the Art Students League and at the Loveland Academy of Art with Richard Schmid. Lani is a Signature Member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters & the Society of Animal Artists. Lani's artistic calling was apparent early in life as evidenced by her drawing in and on her books and papers as a child. She grew up watching her mother paint and was exposed to artwork from other relatives hanging on home walls. The passion to create became reality in adulthood only after her children started school and she began attending classes at the Art Student's League of Denver with Kim English. After serving as Kim's class monitor for four years she began attending a painting group in Loveland Colorado, formed by Richard Schmid and stayed with it for six years. These two artists have been the most influential on her work, along with numerous masters such as Anders Zorn, John Singer Sargent, Bettina Steinke and many others. Lani began visualizing her paintings as "liquid light", "It is light that I paint" she says. "Paint is the liquid light from which I strive to create visual poetry."

Canyon Country by Lu Haskew Pastel 16x20" image size Additional images available upon request. Landscape view of the Grand Canyon ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career. Since 1992, she has studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike, and others at the Scottsdale Art...
