About the Item

Mike Hall graduated from Manchester College of Art and completed his postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art in London. He established his reputation in film and television design in the 1970’s and 1980’s, during which period he also undertook various painting commissions. He has had a one-man show in London and his work is currently on show in Galleries in Surrey and Hampshire. Artist Statement “My career in Film and Television design enabled me to travel extensively in Europe and the West Indies. During these projects I was able to draw and paint many of the locations. These works became studies of the light and atmosphere of the architecture and landscape in different parts of the world. Many of the original sketches and drawings have been converted into full paintings in my studio. This has given me the opportunity to use more complex painting methods to explore the visual and emotional memories through the use of colour, light and atmosphere. My present work explores the emotional response to interiors that are not occupied and yet have the mark of human presence.” Mike’s work can be found in Private collections in Scotland, France, Los Angeles, New York, Germany and the Home Counties
