About the Item

This is classic Norton Bush and one of our few Americans who traveled to South and Central America at this date to do these exotic scenes. He employed a Hudson River School technique called "Luminist" painting and we see that here with the incredibly translucent approach to how he applied paint. At this time the skies in paintings were a metaphor for hope and often the sense of a higher power such as God. Bush was friends with Frederick Edwin Church and there is a strong influence on Bush with how he saw his friend painting. Church as well traveled and painted exotic locales. Light in palette and beautifully framed to period, this is work is a transporting piece that also carries value on the historic front of the evolution of American painting.
