Canvas, oil. 80×100 cm. 2017 --- Summer is in full swing — and the artist does not paint it, but experiences it. ‘Turbulent Expression’ was born in the open air, on a plein air painting session, where the sunlight leaves no time for reflection. Oleksandr Khrapachov (b. 1981) has captured that rare moment when nature ceases to be a landscape and becomes a state of mind: tree trunks, crowns, flashes of sunlight and shadows merge into a single pulsating image. The canvas exists on the border between two traditions. The academic school keeps the composition in balance — the forms are recognisable, the space is structured. But the impressionistic temperament shatters this restraint from within: the brushstrokes are alive, the colour is emotional rather than descriptive. It is precisely in this tension between order and passion that the power of the work lies. It is no coincidence that the work features in the artist’s personal catalogue *Khrapachov O. Painting* (Kyiv, BX\[studio\], 2018) — a publication that captures the most mature period of his career. To be included in the catalogue means to have stood the test of time.
