The vertical landscape painting depicts a Colorado ski town on a winter night. A crescent moon and stylized clouds decorate the sky. Glowing ski slopes and blurred car headlights bring warmth and movement to the mountain scene. Green, white, and light orange highlight the forms throughout the composition.
About the Artist
Artist Phyllis Anderson creates landscapes inspired by the mountains and wilderness of the American West. "Through my work, I celebrate a mythic vision of wilderness and the enduring mysteries of the high country," says Phyllis. Working in acrylic, she layers pastel, charcoal, and pencil over paint to create expressive surfaces filled with vivid color, fragmented imagery, and dynamic mark-making. Her landscapes are rooted in places she has personally explored, many inspired by photographs taken while traveling through Colorado. In 2015, a professional development workshop with a gallery owner encouraged Phyllis to approach her art practice with greater intention, helping shape the career she continues to build today. She works between two studios, a home workspace for smaller paintings and storage, and a public studio where she creates larger works while engaging with fellow artists and visitors. Outside the studio, Phyllis enjoys hiking, skiing, volunteering at local art centers, and supporting her cooperative gallery.
